Overheard @ The Open Mic #20
“Life is moments to be shared. Love is when you share it.” - Scott
It’s only occurring to me now (as I type this update) just how outside I was last month. July was WONDERFUL! From Chicago to Detroit to DC to NYC, I’ve been blessed to experience new sceneries and new scenes. Scenes include open mics (of course) and also showcases, writing workshops, a Charm City Slam and a birthday feature. Yes, yes, July was my birthday month. Shoutout to Poetic Boy D- my birthday brother and phenomenal host- for the opportunity. July 23rd marked my second time featuring in NYC at Harlem Bomb Shelter. Other highlights include hanging out with lifelong friends who live in different cities AND dating again. I say it here, just as I say it in my journal, “I’m grateful for all the love that surrounds me.”
For all newcomers, this monthly segment features top lines overheard in DMV creative spaces. I’ve done quite a bit of summer travel this month, so there are also cameo lines from Detroit and New York. I can’t credit each quote to its author, but I can say none of them are my intellectual property. Maybe a line transports you to a nostalgic post, picture or journal entry. Maybe a line jolts you into a meditative stupor. Maybe a line affirms that you are, in fact, on the right path. I simply ask that if a specific quote resonates, you leave a comment.
